Taking SAT Subject tests if not necessary?

Hi, I was wondering if I should take the SAT Biology and Math 2 subject tests even if the colleges I was looking at don't require them. I have a 35 on the ACT so that substitute's Boston University's BS/MD program requirement. The other colleges/progams I look forward to apply to are Case's PPSP, Cincinnati's BA/MD, Toledo BS/MD, NEOUCOM, Virginia Commonwealth, Ohio State pre medical research program, and Miami of Oxford,Ohio.

Thanks!

If you believe that you can do well on them and that they will showcase some of your strengths, then why not? Keep in mind that you won’t be held back in anyway if you choose not to take the tests if they aren’t required. If your scores don’t reflect what you want, just don’t send them - no big deal.

^ In theory I would agree. I would make sure that the schools do not require ALL test results to be reported, even if they are not needed for admissions. It may seem like a small thing, but you don’t want to get bit in the butt on the flip side. If you had a 34+ on both the Math and Science ACT portions I don’t see the need. IF the Math or Science portions were not the strongest parts of your ACT and you want to show strength there, AND you are sure you can do well, it could help.

Consider also time to prepare for the tests. Will this be a problem with a heavy Sr academic and EC schedule, in addition to polishing college apps?

Don’t take them if they are not required.

Math 2 does not require much preparation (if you’re already in Calculus at least), although Biology might, especially if you’re taking it in the fall.
