So October scores came out, I have a low CR score (640) that I feel will definitely hurt me in applying to Columbia/Penn/Cornell. I already took SATs three times, but would it be worth it to take it a fourth time in hopes to improve my CR score?

isn’t that what superscoring is for

Well since some schools (like Penn) require that you send all your scores, would it look bad if I took them a fourth time? And a 640 CR is part of my superscore, so it hurts me more than it helps.

I’m in the exact same predicament except it’s my math score that is weighing my score down. I think I’m just going to take it again b/c it I think a higher SAT score with 4 takes is better than a lower with 3 takes. as long as you make sure you get CR up I’d say do it

Should i take it again (will be my 3rd) to raise my math and writing (740, 710)?

user2134, I would suggest retaking to boost those math and writing scores to 750+. For the others, I think that as long as you’re improving your score/superscore with the fourth take then you should be fine. However, I can see how retaking the SAT a fourth time with great scores (2250+) could hurt. But in your case, it should only help.

I have another question. SAT scores are usually sent after the common app is submitted right?

You could send in your SAT scores before your common app is submitted. I don’t know if they are “usually” sent in after the common app is submitted though.

So would it be worth it to take it a fourth time? Right now I have 640 CR/800 M/730 W. If I get a 700 would it be worth it? Or not that much of a difference and almost look desperate?
