Taking semester off-advanced standing (Ap's)

Just wondering if anyone would recommend taking the Fall or Spring semester off at Princeton based upon receiving notice from the school that the AP exams qualified for this "advanced standing." Apparently, some students travel, study abroad, work, etc. Assuming that proper planning is in place to allow for enough time to take the required credits in the intended major and other required classes, is this a good idea? Thanks

^I was also wondering this, and wondering what one should do with a semester off. Travel/Study abroad sounds good, but I was wondering if the semester off could be used to do a rigorous 6-8 month internship or something.

Students that I advise in this situation often take the chance for study abroad without the complication of making sure that the courses are acceptable at Princeton. I had one student who took the option to complete the Engineering curriculum in three years (against advice), he was successful but it was very tough, basically he started with soph. classes. Some students do take the opportunity to do an internship.

Is it generally a "good" thing to skip a year if I'm eligible for the advanced standing? I'm doing BSE in ORFE, EE, or ChemE and I've got all the necessary AP credits to skip a year in BSE according to the Princeton website...but I was wondering if there are any harms in doing that. Will I have trouble with my higher classes if I become a junior my 2nd year?

How bad was it for him? did his ECs suck?

Powis, have you advised any premed students who intended to finish in 3 years? If you have, do you have any advice and do you using advanced standing for a premed? Thanks.

But even if you could fit all the academics into three years, why would you want to miss out on the friends and fun and social events and the already short time that is college?
