Taking Subject Tests with the ACT

I’m planning to take 2 subject tests with the ACT(with writing). At home I am scoring higher on the ACT than on the SAT which is why I am planning to take the ACT. However people are telling me that if I take the subject tests, I must also do the SAT because some colleges require the SAT if the subject tests are taken. Is it true that if I do subject tests I must also take the SAT regardless of whether or not I take the ACT?

Okay so let me make it clear. It’s a myth. SAT is only going to help you in admission in some of the top European universities (If they require it). Apart from this every college in USA accepts both ACT and SAT. However, If you give SAT 1, it will cost you only $12 to send both SAT 1 and 2 scores to a University. Sending ACT and SAT scores separately will cost you more. That’s the only advantage from what I know

My D took both SAT and ACT but performed much better in ACT. She took a couple SAT2 tests and submitted the scores to the schools that recommend or required them (not many nowaday even without ACT score). No schools would require SAT1 for SAT2 scores. Some schools require/recommend SAT2 if submitting SAT1 score (but waived if submitting ACT score). Typically, those schools would list the application requirement as “ACT or SAT1+SAT2”. You may get confused by that. There is nothing wrong in submitting ACT+SAT2.
