Taking Summer Classes at the Ivies - WORTH IT?

I'm starting my Masters in Computer Science in January of the next year. My school is a relatively unknown state school and I was hoping to take 2 or 3 classes at one of the Ivies over the summer. Has anyone taken summer classes at the Ivies? I would love to hear about your experience. I know it's expensive but it's something I've wanted to do for a long time.

Do you mean is it worth it for the experience or for the graduate admissions? I can’t speak to the former, but as for the latter - don’t take summer classes for the sole purpose of looking good to graduate admissions. You can get into a top graduate school from any kind of undergraduate institution; you don’t need to take classes at a top school to be competitive.

If they’re something you want to do for your own enrichment/curiosity and you have the money, why not? I just think that a targeted career development program might be a better choice than randomly taking non-degree classes.

Pay attention to how these summer classes fit in your long-term plans…

No, I will be a Computer Science grad student next semester. I have already gotten into the CS program of my choice so I am not taking these classes for admissions.

I was asking about peoples experiences taking summer classes as a visiting student at Harvard, Columbia, etc.
