Taking the ACT as a College Student...

Hello all!

I might take the ACT again this June, once my freshman year is over. I took the ACT once in my junior year of HS, and I got a horrible 27.

The thing is, I don't know what to use to prep. I already used the Official ACT Book and PR's Cracking the ACT. What else could I use?

Also, since I had trouble in the past with reading (I am a slow reader), are there any books that can help me get better in reading?

I heard Barron's ACT 36 is good, but doesn't have any practice tests.

I am willing to buy a book I can learn from along with one that has realistic practice tests.

I’m a college student too who’s going to take the ACT in February and I used “The Real ACT” book to study too!
Just by using that book, I saw a 5 point difference (26-31)

I’m currently using McGraw Hill’s 10 ACT practice test book.
I can tell you that with the very first test on the McGraw Hill Book, I felt like I was exposed to new material.

My highest English score which was a 33 on “The Real ACT” test, became a 30. The other scores were pretty similar except for Reading which dropped too.

It might be just me, but I felt like I was learning new stuff when I used the McGraw Hill Book.

It’s up to you though. I don’t want to force you to purchase a new book because again, it could have been just me that was feeling “new” to some of the English material in that book.

I’m thinking fo taking the ACT too. I never took it before so I’m making sure I’ll get The Real ACT and other good practice books as well.
