Taking the ACT in the spring of my sophomore year or fall of my junior year?

I know this is a bit early to post about, but I need to start studying soon if I plan to take it this year. My teachers think it would be better for me to take it the spring of this year-with geometry and algebra 2 fresh in my brain. However, I’m not exactly on board with their idea. I rather would take in the fall my junior year-when I have a whole summer to prepare for it. However, I also was planning on taking a math class this summer so that might interfere with that studying time, as well as getting work experience.

The lastest test date for this year is April 19th. That gives me a few months to study. Thankfully, I am dropping an AP and taking it another year per that teacher’s request-she thinks I would benefit by taking more years of math before taking her class- and it WILL NOT show up on my transcript when I drop it. So I will have a study hall for the rest of the year where I would have some extra time in school to study for the ACT.

Even though I don’t feel fully confident taking it this year, I think my teacher’s have a point. Furthermore, I plan on taking 2-3 APs that year. I also have a few general questions:

-Colleges can see all of your attempts on the test, right? Even if you hide your score, they can see that you took it?

-What are some of the best ACT books for ACT practice?

-What about specialized subjects on the ACT, like the best books for English ACT prep, math and science ACT prep, ECT.

-Do you think it’s a better idea to take it this year or next year? I know mostly juniors take the ACT, but by the end of this year I will have completed all the classes they recommend you take before taking the ACT.

  1. You can request to delete ACT Scores. The sooner and MORE you test the BETTER! ***But don't go overboard (over 6 times is excessive) My Personal Favorites Books are: (All Subjects)
  2. Up Your Score: ACT 2016/2017 edition (Best Choice for thoroughly understanding the content) THIS IS A MUST
  3. Princeton Review (Best Choice for brushing up in certain areas)
  4. The RED Book 2016/2017 edition ( Best Choice for Practice Test and understanding how the ACT works [scoring, criteria etc...)

I’m a senior who made the mistake of waiting…take it JUNIOR YEAR
A Decent GPA/ACT score gets you admitted but a GREAT GPA/ACT gets you Merit!!

Make sure that you are getting the official act prep guide! You want to make sure that you are using official material that comes directly from the ACT so that you are prepared for what will actually be on the test. You can take the ACT more than once, so you can take it in April then prepare for the summer and take it again in the fall of next year.

I would wait until you think you are ready which sounds like fall of your junior year which is plenty early. Ideally you don’t want to take these tests many times. Perhaps sometime this year you can take a full practice SAT and ACT to figure out which format you prefer and then concentrate your studying this summer on one test.

Take it in June of sophomore year at the very earliest. I took it in spring of my sophomore year and there were several concepts on the math section that we literally covered in class the following week. There is a June 10 testing date, so I would recommend that. However, IF YOU HAVE NOT COVERED TRIG IN SOPHOMORE YEAR, wait until Fall. I got a 36 on the math section, but there were some concepts that I had only recently learned at the time of testing that I was not 100% comfortable with yet. Wait until the year is over at least
