Taking the ACT

I am planning to take the ACT this year and I wanted to know which review book(s) are good. Also, how long did you study for per day and for how long, and what did you get?

Get Barron’s for your book. Also, I had a tutor who gave me practice tests that weren’t from the books that had been the real ACT test from a few years ago. I would do a section a day until I had a whole test from a book completely done. Also, you should start out not timing yourself and just figuring out what kind of information is on the test. I also took a practice test, timed, every weekend at my tutor’s house. I really recommend doing that because it gives you a feel of how the real test will be. The first time I took it I had only been studying for about 2 months and I got a 28. After studying for the next 4 months it jumped to a 31, and then after studying for 2 more months it went up to a 32. You should really take it as many times as you can because it will help you get the feel of the test so by the 3rd or 4th time you take it, you won’t even feel the pressure.

I didn’t really use any review books, but I took a few practice tests. I think a good way to score high on the ACT, or any standardized test, is just to get familiar with the test. Thus I recommend taking as many practice tests as you can, timed, and look over all the questions you missed. I got a 30.

I took one practice test and then two sets of science sections and one reading section back to back to back the weekend before, and got a 35.
