Im currently a junior taking AP World history right now. I love history, and I'm going to major in it in college. AP European History is not offered at my school, so I am interested in taking the exam at the end of the year without actually taking the class. I may just read the textbooks, ect, but I am wondering how hard is the test itself? As of right now, I'm finding World pretty manageable , and the coursework relatively easy. Also, if i do bomb the exam, will colleges still see that I took it without taking the class? Or will I just have to defer my scores? And how similar are the formats of the World and Euro exams?
Thank you!!!

AP Euro is basically part of AP World. Our AP World class takes the AP World Exam and our Honors World takes the AP Euro exam so I’m guessing you’re good.

I’ve taken both, AP World History freshman year, AP Euro sophomore year. All I gotta say is the AP Euro test is hard if you come in with fresh eyes. The best way to prepare is if you’ve already taken an AP test, because then you know the format. Tip is to get a review book. Although I got one and never used it because I had a great teacher, you should. Take AP Euro exams from previous years on the college board website. Constantly grade yourself on DBQs and FRQS. From what I’ve heard, APs can only help. If you bomb and get a sub-3 (let’s hope not), colleges might see that you took it, but you don’t get credit for it. It all depends on what college, but they tend to look for 3 and above, prefereably 4 or 5. I mean if you want you can send it in, but I’d say, only send in your best scores. World and Euro are very similar. I had fresh eyes in World and no practice so I got a 3, but after that, my sheer love of history (loud and proud) and maybe a curve prevailed even though I never used my review book or listened to my teacher (don’t do that, unless you’re 100% confident). I got a 5 on that.

So, cheers and good luck!

Thank you! Very helpful!!

get the REA crash course book for AP Euro…it is a god

I took AP Euro as a Sophomore and got a 2
All I can say is if you are really interested in history, take it, but make sure to cover everything, because some multiple choice questions were really random.

Best of luck!
P.S. A kid who got a 5 said that Modern European History was a good prep book.
