I attended Rutgers Newark for my freshman year. This coming fall I'll be attending Rutgers New Brunswick. Rutgers Newark is a very small campus, there's no buses. I went on a bus tour today, but they didn't tell you how the bus system works, they just put you in a academy bus and gave a tour of the campus. Can anyone explain how the buses work? How do you know which one to catch from one campus to the other? how do you know which part of the campus you get off at, that's near the building where your class is? and any other info that will be useful.

Use the building search to put in the specific buildings where your classes are.

Scroll to the bottom where there are PDF's of the route of each line. Also, there's a link to nextbus, a semi-interactive site that shows where individual buses actually are.

In short, the A and the H buses are the same just the reverse of each other(A goes one way around Busch to College Ave, H goes the opposite way around Busch to College Ave), L is Livingston/Coll Ave(LX is the express version), B is Busch/Liv, REXB is Cook/Douglass to Busch, REXL is C/D to Liv, EE is C/D to Coll Ave.

Aside from just finding where your classes are and matching them to the closest stop, there's not much more you can do. If at all possible make a dry run of campus prior to the start of classes and obviously allow extra time on the first day. Ask questions too, almost everyone will help..we've all been there.

I'm not sure if freshman have received their schedules yet but if you have(or haven't) and have some other more specific questions, pm me.

You'll get used to it quickly.

You forgot about the F, which goes from Cook/Douglass to College Ave.

...And I agree that if you're not sure where to go, ask someone--either another student or the bus driver.

I have a question will they let you on the bus if you haven't received your RUID yet? Like if I catch a train into New Brunswick but the train station is no where near my dorm? Can I like jump on the bus and get taken to the ID station?

Yea pretty much anyone can get on the bus..they don't check ID's.

Yes, and don't let anyone try to convince you otherwise.

"The Rutgers-New Brunswick/Piscataway inter-campus bus and shuttle system is a service provided for all five campuses. It is available to all members of the university community."

Free, no charge, no ID.

im trying to see where the closest stops are by the building i have classes in. anyone know what's the closest bus stop to hickman hall? is it gibbons or college hall?

The two you listed might be pretty close but if you're coming from College Ave, Busch, or Liv you're probably better off just getting off at the student center and walking across the street. Since after the student center you're gonna have to wait for the bus to loop around to hit Gibbons/College Hall.

I think that should be right..I'm not too too familiar with Cook/Douglass.

Gibbons is definitely closer than College Hall, but even for Gibbons you'd have to wait for the bus to go all the way around because it's one of the last stops on campus (this is assuming you don't live on Cook or Douglass). You might be better off getting off at Passion Puddle (Red Oak Lane) and walking towards the right to Loree and either go through it or around it to the horse bridge that will take you right to Hickman. That's probably the better option if you don't have much time, but if you're early and think you'll be good, just ride it around to Gibbons and then Hickman will be right across the street.

Oh, and a tip--the EEs tend to stop and wait for a few minutes at Passion Puddle, so I suggest ask the bus driver if they are waiting and for how long. If it might be a few minutes, there might be bus that was already there that you can hop onto that'll be leaving soon. Otherwise, if an F comes by, they don't generally stop for long, if they stop.

Anyone know the closest bus stop to the New Brunswick stop of the the Northeast Corridor Line of the New Jersey Transit? I'm gonna be on Busch Mattia dorm, and want to know which bus stop I'd be near.

Hey, the EE and F (which go from College Ave. to Cook/Douglass) stop at the station (both to College Ave. and leaving it), as does the L (which goes from College Ave. to Livingston), but the station's definitely within walking distance from College Ave. where you'll be able to get a Busch bus (the closest stop on College Ave. being Scott Hall).

I have back to back classes and I need to get from Allison Road Classroom on Busch to Beck Hall on Livingston in 20 minutes. Is this enough time or should I ask to move my class to a different time?

Sounds like you might have intro to experimentation haha. The B bus stops across the street from ARC so you might get caught having to run for the bus if you so choose. It's possible though if the B bus comes right after your class ends(and there's room on the bus). B buses always tended to come late and in bunches, at least it seemed that way when I was in a rush. If you're on your way to a big class it's usually ok to come a little late since there will be a bunch of people with you.

hey how would i get from metzger (busch) to hickman hall (cook/douglass)?

Ha ha, I didn't realize that's what ARC stood for...

You'll probably want to take the REXB, which goes straight to C/D from Busch. I'm not sure where you can pick it up on Busch (probably the student center, but I'd check), but I know on C/D you'll want to get off at Passion Puddle (Red Oak Lane). Directions from there to Hickman are up a little bit ^.

To get from Metzger to C/D you're best bet is to get on the REXB at Hill on the first go around. Don't be worried if you don't catch it when its stopped at Hill(not on the island), it goes to ARC and comes back to Hill and stops at the island. ALLOW A LOT OF TIME though, the bus route is extremely long and hard to predict with the rt. 18 traffic.

when the EE bus and F bus stop at Rutgers Student Center, do they stop on the same side, or does one stop on the side where the library is and the other on the side of the rutgers student center?

The EE stops over by Brower and the F by the Student Center.

When coming from C/D, the F goes up George Street and stops by the SAC (Student Activities Center), which is by the river dorms (Frelinghuysen, Hardenburgh, and Campbell) and then goes up to College Ave. The EE goes straight to College Ave.

which one should i wait for? is one faster than the other?
