Taking the GRE to Impress Undergradute Adcoms

Here's a hypothetical:

Let's say you're considering to take the GRE (the standardized test for entrance into graduate programs) as a near-graduating community college student to impress undergraduate adcoms at more selective universities. You have a decent GPA with good ECs to accompany your academic work. You're a first generation URM as well. However, you want something to really impress adcoms with your applicant to increase your chances of admission at these selective universities.

You do well on the GRE, after much practice and studying.

Will this impress undergraduate adcoms or will it be deemed irrelevant?

I would suspect that GRE scores will be irrelevant. The most important factors for admission will be your GPA, transcript and professor recommendations. I don’t recommend taking the GRE test at this time.

Schools don’t like it when you send extra crap, anyway.

^Well, mentioning it in your personal essay or “student resume” (as some colleges phrase it).

Yeah but you’d have to follow it up with official scores since they cant just take your word for it and that equals something extra.

Colleges are getting tons of applications these days. They won’t waste their time looking at something they don’t ask for.

The GRE is pretty lame anyways. It isn’t nearly as important for graduate school admissions as the SAT is for undergraduate admissions.
