Taking the GRE

I am beginning to prepare for the GRE but I have a couple years of undergrad left. Can I take the GRE early just to see how it is? I haven’t studied at all, but I’m thinking that if I take it now I will get a better understanding of what I need to study. I’m not expecting a good score, but if I take it again later it won’t effect my records, right?
All GRE advice is apreciated!
Thanks,
-Michael

Go to ets and take practice test and/or buy test book. I think your score is good for 5 years so I wouldn’t take it so early that you’d have to retake several years out of school. It is expensive but if money is no object I guess you could and then take again later but practice test or study guide should tell you the same thing.
