Taking the GREs over LSATs

I am unsure if I want to pursue my JD or Ph.D. in political science; therefore, I will be preparing for the GREs this summer. If I decide I want to go to law school over a Ph.D. program, will it look inferior to law schools if I took the GRE over the LSAT?

Great question. Depends upon the particular law school and on whether you are referring simply to admission or to scholarship consideration.

My best guess is that it will not hurt much–law schools probably prefer a high LSAT score to a high GRE score for US News rankings–with respect to admission, but may harm your chances for significant scholarship awards. Just a guess as specifics matter and you have not shared any specifics with respect to targeted law schools & as to your background & qualifications.

^^Exactly. We know with certainty that law schools will throw merit money at a high LSAT score, but not enuf data to know if/how they reward high GRE scores.
