Taking the June 7 SAT, and I need help please

Hey guys, I'm an international student from Lebanon.
I took the January SAT and got a 1770 without preparation, 660M,540CR,570WR.
I just found out that I need to take the June sat, if i want to have time to take my SAT subject tests next year(senior) and apply early admission to the colleges of my choice.

I need to get a 2250+, I believe i can do it, but what would be the best way to efficiently study for it, given a months time? I can study up to 5 hours a day, and I could say i'm a pretty smart student. I make a lot of stupid mistakes though :/

Please, any help would be great, like a schedule or something, and what to study and what not, because getting 2250 is crucial. Thank you

Take practice tests with set time limits and carefully go over each question that you miss and why.

Your CR score is the lowest, how is your vocab? You have 660 in maths and you can make improvements there also. In your writing section, check your essay score. It will tell you if you need to work on essay or grammar or maybe both.
If you got those score without preparation then studying for few hours a day for a month can yield good results, not sure of 2250 though. Depends on you.
Taking practice tests with set time limits as suggested above would help greatly with overcoming stupid mistakes.

If you take the SAT in June and your SAT II in October, that means that June is your last chance at the SAT, correct? If you NEED a 2250+, then a 480+ score increase is a very risky proposition if that will be your last shot at the SAT.

Can I ask what schools you are applying to?

Yes indeed, it is my last chance if I want to apply early to colleges. I believe I can do it, I grasp things quickly, and when I first took it, I crammed everything in 3-4 days. The thing is if I find out what type of questions come on the test, i’ll be able to do better, since most of the English and math is nothing like what I learn at school. Even though it’s simple basic math, some of us Lebanese students don’t know how to solve them. So, what i’m asking for is some kind of study planner for the next month to give me the best chances? Should I be timing myself from the get-go, or start by just trying to get all the questions right without timing? What about vocabulary? I made 11 mistakes from the 19 possible vocab questions in the last SAT test and still got 540, so I think my passage reading needs little tuning. On the math, I didn’t know how to do 2 simple questions. When I finished the test, and looked at explanations, I felt like a fool, only because I hadn’t learned it. I got an 8 on the essay section without using the college confidential methods, and just by using my own, so I think I have alot of room for improvement in writing, both in the essay and MC sections. The MC writing should be easy if I just learn the grammar rules and practice them. What i’m worried about is getting a perfect math score, and getting 680+ on CR. Thank you in advance.

Edit: Harvard, Upenn, Columbia, UT austin, and maybe UCLA

Quote: “I made 11 mistakes from the 19 possible vocab questions in the last SAT test and still got 540, so I think my passage reading needs little tuning”

Not just passage reading but you need to learn vocab also. Generally the best idea is to develop it with reading but if time is short, search for different vocab lists on internet and work on that also besides passage reading, grammar and maths.

Are financial considerations a factor in your College selection or you should be able to afford any of them? Asking because from your list above, only Harvard and Upenn cover 100% financial need for international students. Also these Universities are a very high reach even with 2250 SAT score and 4.0 GPA unless you have great EC’s.

I know it’s high reach, Financial issues aren’t really a problem, because i’m going to be depending on small loans if my parents cant pay full. I have high school grades, and i’m ranked high at my school. The thing is, i’ve heard it is easier for international students to get into some ivy’s. Also My ec’s include 100+ community service hours, varsity basketball captain in my junior year, and currently i’m working at an engineering consulting firm for 10 hours a week (part time), so by the time i apply i’ll have around 400 hours of experience under my belt, with recommendations from high ranked people in the company if that helps. I have some awards that i’ve won aswell, should i even consider applying to the ivys if i score 2200 in june?

There are other people in this forum who can give you a better answer on if you should be applying with 2200, but I can tell you that I have seen people rejected even with 2300. That being said, if you have good EC’s, great grades, great recommendations, some luck (not many other people applying from that part of world with better credentials) then I would say you have a chance. But do work hard on your SAT, all sections need improvement.
In your first post last week, you said you will be dedicating 5 hours a day. Have you been doing that?

I’m starting tomorrow, that’s when i’ll have the Blue book, and the Baron’s book. I’ve a lot of positive comments about the blue book, but what about Baron’s?

It’s going to be very, very difficult to improve your SAT that many points. You should probably set more realistic goals.

I can’t, it’s my last possible chance to take it.

If that was a response to me, I mean more realistic school choices. By all means, study hard and do well, but pick less selective schools as well.

I’m using UT as a safety

UT Austin as an international is “highly competitive” (<a href=“Apply for Admission | Undergraduate Admissions | The University of Texas at Austin”>Apply for Admission | Undergraduate Admissions | The University of Texas at Austin). This source says (http://www.utexas.edu/news/2012/09/19/2012-preliminary-enrollment-data/</a>) 25% admit rate in 2012 for internationals. One in four chance? And you’re using that as your SAFETY? Furthermore, your current score means that UT is not even close to a safety. A lot of seats are taken by in-state Texas students in the top 7% of their schools.

If you are going to pick a safety that is ranked like Top 50 or Top 100, I think you will be better served by picking a Private college as compared to a flagship State University. The flagship State Universities accept a limited number of international or out of state students. Since you will be paying out of state fee’s in any case, it will not make much of difference to you. For example SMU is ranked pretty close to UT Austin and though for a Texas resident UT Austin makes more sense but for you SMU might be better. (it is just a random example, I am not saying you have stats to get into SMU. It is a fairly competitive school). For safety I would suggest, go further down the list.

I’m not a qualified person to give you any advice, but from my point of view, you should set a more realistic goal. With your claim that you’re a fast learner and got 1770 without practice, i think 2100+ would definitely within your reach. You will need confidence and determination but dont let those qualities trick your mind into thinking that you can surpass any limits.
Still, best of luck on june 7  im also taking the test on that day
