taking the MCAT again?

Hello,

I took the 3/28/09 MCAT and got a 31Q (P:12 B:10 V:9). Although I was pretty satisfied with the score, I decided to take it again in July for a better score (my top choice is Brown). The problem is that when I take it on 7/17, I will get my score in August, and only then, will my application be complete. I know that since medical school admissions are rolling, the earlier you apply the better. I will study very hard for the next two months, but there is no guarantee that I will do significantly better, so should I take the chance? More specifically, if my score goes from 31Q to about 34Q, will that compensate me submitting the application in August instead of June? Lastly, will medical schools review my application only after they get the MCAT score? Thank you so much!

Don’t retake it. 31 to 34 isn’t that great of an improvement to make the risk worth it. Above a 30, you’re at a point where you really have an equal chance to go up or down in score, unless you are just destroying your practice tests.
