I just learned that there was a practice ACT. The website says that its usually taken in the fall of your sophomore year. I'm still a sophomore. Do any places administer it now?

no its only in the fall

I am not sure if you would be able to take the PLAN without going through your school first. I would recommend that you just start taking real practice ACTs when you feel comfortable. If you have been on these forums for a while, you will know that there are several books out there – Princeton Review, the “Red Book”, etc. There are also free practice tests online, which might be the best way to start out.

Two free test sites I know of:
[Number2.com :: Free Online Test Prep](http://number2.com/)
[SparkNotes: ACT: Test Center](http://testprep.sparknotes.com/testcenter/act/)

You should be ready for everything except the math as a sophomore. If you have a solid Algebra and Geometry background already, then you will be fine. As far as the English test goes, you should only need a grammar background. Everything else on the ACT is learned from taking practice tests and analyzing the explanations behind the answers. Even the science test does not (usually) require outside knowledge. You just have to learn how to deal with all the jargon they will throw at you – and in a limited time.

Good luck!
