I am a junior in Minnesota. I am currently getting 210-215 on the 2005-2007 official past PSATs purchased off Amazon. The last few years the National Merit Semifinalist cutoff for the state of MN is about 215. Just curious, if is it possible to take the PSAT in say North Dakota, a state with a lower NMSF cutoff (204). Then would I have the 204 North Dakota NMSF cutoff or the 215 Minnesota NMSF cutoff? This is a little "sketchy", but I am just curious if its an option.
Thanks in advance.

From what I have heard, it doesn’t matter what location you take the exam in as they go by the location of your high school in determining the cut-off score. Nice try though…

If you want to move to North Dakota just so you can take the PSAT at a school there, then you’re OK. But I don’t know how your parents will feel about that. If might cost much less to hire a tutor to work on your areas of weakness instead. (It also might cost less than just to cost of visiting ND for the purpose of taking the test).

If you’ve taken 3 past tests, you should be able to identify where you need work.

lol. how pathetic.

@MeganFox… i mean FeganMox I know. I was just curious.

This was a big question for my son last year because we live in 1 state and he attends school across the state line.

@Buckeye is correct - National Merit is based upon where your SCHOOL is located.

New England boarding schools have a separate classification and in essence are considered a “state.”

Ok. Thanks for the helpful info Longhaul and BuckeyeatHeart.
