Taking the SAT 4 times?

From my first to second SAT, there was some improvement (~150 points or so). My second sat test was in the mid-2200s, but one section was slightly below a 700, so I retook it. But I was sick with the flu on my third try, so I did a little worse. (Interestingly, I got the exact same score except on the math section on which I missed one--made a mistake I guess) On the third one, I did better number-of-problems-I-got-right wise, but the score was the same (harsh curve I guess). So overall, from my 2nd to 3rd try, score was lower.

So my question is, I'm taking a crack at it for the last time (4th time) because I'm feeling that I'd be at a disadvantage somehow for the low SAT score. Would this be frowned upon by Stanford? And more importantly, does Stanford accept January scores (or do I have to rush the shipping)? It would be most helpful if those of you who took SATs 4 times can prove your acceptances regardless of how many times you took the test.

Any inputs appreciated.

from what Ive been told from GC, teachers, college websites, and general asking around, it is frowned upon to take it more than 3 times. Even 3 times is kind of pushing it. You scored in the mid 2200s. You’re fine. In fact, Stanford tends to look at applications more hollistically than other colleges. If you don’t get in (hopefully you do), i am pretty sure that it will not be because of your SAT score.

stanford says that you can take the january SAT and send the score to them, but they can’t guarantee that it will come in time. on their website it says the last SAT date is december. i’m guessing this means that if they’ve already looked at your application by the time they receive the SAT score, then they won’t go back to your file and re-evaluate it.

personally, i wouldn’t retake it because i’d like not to waste 4 hours on a saturday morning taking a test. plus, you’ve already done well. and it’s much nicer to be done with everything college-related and just be a second semester senior.

You really don’t need to retake it if it’s in the mid-2200s. I got in with a 2180 – 690 M, 690 CR, 800 W. You’ll be fine!
