What happens if you take the SAT a fourth time? Are all your scores averaged?

colleges dont want you to take it 4 times....
0 times-ur screwd
1-might as well try again unless you got a perfect score
2-perfect
3-max
4-what happened the first 3 TIMES?!

That's bull. My friend who took it 4 times went to Harvard.

I'm taking it 4 times as well.

ummm...great? lol

when did i say you CANT get into harvard...what are you talking about...i simply said that unless you are POSTIVE offcourse youll have a major increase...its looks weird and its pointless...that does NOT mean...you CANNOT get into harvard

I think robotFOOD was trying to say that it doesn`t hurt to take it four times.

To answer your question, no, I don't think colleges average your scores. Most take either your highest sitting or the highest score for each subject. They will also know how many times you take it, and too many times probably doesn't look too fantastic.

So taking it again without doing a lot of significant extra preparation is pointless, unless you were feeling sick the last time, etc. In fact, if you got a high score and you don't do extra prep, chances are that your next score will be lower.

What did you get the first three times? Do you think they're really low?

Mine were.

first 1790
second 1960
third 2050

If you study hard for the next SAT, then I don't think it'll hurt to take it another time. 2050 is a good score, but if you think you can do better the next time with preparation (which I think you can, for there're rooms for improvement), take it. It also depends on what colleges you're applying to. For most, that SAT score is perfect already. =)

i have a friend who went from a 1250 on the old SAT to a 1490. Send your scores before u take it, then retake it, if it isn't good, they will never see it.

I apply for ivies and top lac's

bball87

i'm thinking of doing what u just said, but do you think the score will arrive in time??

basically, right now i have sent all my scores out and i told my colleges that i'll retake the Jan. SAT.

Can you send in the score AFTER you have check the score online to see if you did well or not?? Will it arrive in time?

I want to retake it in case I decide to transfer. I know I can do much better the fourth time, because I omitted way too many (verbal section: omitted 10, missed ... 1!).

i took it four times...got caught in the whole new sat/old sat mess

i got
1510
1590
then found out i had to take writing for national merit and some of my schools
2230
2400(80 mc, 12 essay) :)
i'm worried it will look bad that i took it that many times....can't say im unhappy w/ my final score tho

Yeah... I called up HYPS + like all the top Northeastern schools since I did terrible on the SAT the first time (like 1200).... they all said take it as many times as I want, as they only take the highest M/W/CR...

treewannabe: i wouldve been happy with any of those scores
