So I took the SAT this november and got 2100 and I just took it again in January, but I think I'm roughly going to score around 2100 which sucks for me as I would be applying to HYPSM and I really need a good SAT score. Also I'm an international student (India) so I need a 2300+. Do you guys suggest taking it again for a third time and would that be okay on my application?

If you know that you’ll improve then you should go for it. Otherwise, that time can be used for other standardized tests. I’m in a similar dilemma unfortunately :P

But would it appear bad on my application?

I know people who’ve taken the sat 3 times and gotten into ivy leagues but they did show significant improvement. If you don’t improve then it just looks like you’ve wasted too much time on sat.

Thanks @DaneBrick.

If you got around a 2100 (or think you will) twice, a 2300+ is doubtful without serious, serious studying and improvement. I only went up net 40 points between my first and second (2290 to 2330). 200 points improvement would be really hard.

Yeah but I think I might get 2200+ (hopefully). If I do, what do you think I should do?

Hmm if you are confident that your preparation for the previous tests wasn’t up to scratch and you are well capable of getting 2300+ then go for it … If you studied hard for the previous tests and don’t really see any area where your preparation could have been better, try the ACT

Thanks @Alcaraz. I think that my previous preparation for the SAT was not upto the mark. I think I would have to retake the SAT.

The first time I took it I got 2000. The second time I got 2180. I took it again in January and expect ~2250. For me, the easiest way to improve is experience. I didn’t do practice tests or read extensively (although I’m sure that helps); I simply have taken enough standardized tests that I am comfortable with the environment, I know what to expect, and I deal with testing roadblocks well. Developing a good test taking strategy helps too.

Do you feel that your missed points are fixable mistakes, or do you not have the know-how to get the score you want?

Yes I think I can correct my mistakes. At this point, I am confident that if I take it again, I can get 2300+.

That’s not easy. You can only miss ~5 problems on the whole test, if that.

I understand that. I just have to not do silly mistakes on CR .
