Taking the SAT multiple times?

Okay, let's say hypothetically I take the SAT 4 times and on my fourth try I achieve a 2400.

Will colleges care that I took it four times and use that against me? Or will the 2400 just be what is considered?

I know that if you take the SAT twice they will just look at your best overall score. If you take it more than twice they will start looking at all of your scores, and start wondering why you felt like you needed to take this test so many times.

"Will colleges care that I took it four times and use that against me? Or will the 2400 just be what is considered?"

Most likely a bit of both.

4 times isn't that bad. most people take it that many times.

Actually the vast majority take it 3x or fewer.

I think the OP here has seen the answer in the other thread,

but I post the link here because many onlookers worry about this issue needlessly.

i too hv this problem...i was actually wondering if 3 times was too much and was going to count against me....so i sent sum schools emails...this one is from CMU ::

" Regardless of how many times you take the SATs, we take the combination of your highest score. Thank you."
Best regards from Carnegie Mellon's Office of Admission.

Brandeis, Tufts, BC, JHU all said the same thing...

you don't have to worry about it.

One of my friends took 6 times and got 2340, and get accepted in Harvard, MIT, Stanford, Princeton, Yale, Columbia, Dartmouth...
So, they don't even care...

He's obsessed with getting the score over 2300, and he finally got into the most selective schools.

hey jamesyhr...when u said 2340....did u mean combined score? or score in one sitting? just wondering

yes. his super score was 2340, his 6th score was 2290

ahhh... kool

It's good to hear what the colleges said in email replies (post #7). I asked some other colleges, and the answers were the same.
