Taking the SAT multiple times

Hey, I was wondering if it looks bad for someone to take the SAT 3 or 4 times, because I plan to take it at least 3 times in high school (end of soph. year, beginning and end of junior year). I say this because I get the impression from other people that you're supposed to take the SAT once, maybe twice, in high school.

Also, I know that the official SAT blue book is probably the best SAT prep book for practice tests, but is it good for giving test-taking strategies and explaining questions?

I think 3 times is OK, but 4 is pushing it.

3 at most is okay (not counting the SAT you may or may not have took in 7th grade).

4 is starting to looks worse and it's starts getting ridiculous after 4.

Id say 3 at most, after that there is not really much room for improvement anyway

I'm in agreement on 3 being a reasonable limit. After that, they'd question your priorities.

Best book for strategy is Cracking the SAT. I liked the tests too.

even though I only took it three times, I don't think 4th one is pushing it.

then what would be the point letting ppl take 'em as many times as possible?

^ more money --> CB.

I think 4 times is too much.

:O I know someone who is taking it for the fourth time this Jan.
Just do it once and right. Or... as most ppl do... do it the first time with maybe 50% prep and the next time with a 110% prep. (Or you need to break the last lap into 2 again...then it would become 3 times)
So moral of the story is: do not attempt the test w/0 feeling atleast 50% better off than the previous time.
(Note! The % prep merely indicates your goals and how far your capable of acheiving them which inturn you can find out through diagnostics)

According to Grammatix, we can take it as many times as we would like. People say not to take it more than three times because it is a waste of time and money. Colleges ONLY look at you're BEST scores.

wait do all colleges look at only your best scores per section?

Hypothetically if you took the SAT twice and you got 800M/600W/600R and 2nd time you got 600M/800W/600R and the 3rd you got 600M/600W/800R would they just count the combined best which in this case would be a 2400?

Some colleges apparenty do this (it is called "superscoring") but I think that most colleges look at your highest score from a single sitting.

90% of the colleges super score.

I don't think thats true. Very few colleges I've researched superscore.

then those colleges take the highest grade.

Sainclaire, no offense but start researching more, out of the 11 colleges that are on my "list" only one doesn't superscore(Michigan)

how about the Ivies do they superscore too?

Yep for the most part, the only one school that I can think of off the top of my head that doesn't is Michigan

i think 3 is pushing it too, it just makes you look like a stupid study freak who doesn't do anything else and no matter how many times you study and retake it you still can't do very well
