As i understand it, taking the SAT more than 3 times is something definitely to avoid. I've taken the old SAT twice earlier in the school year and last march i took the new SAT and got my highest math and verbal scores yet so i'm satisfied but the problem is i BOMBED my writing section. Since they don't offer SATII writing...what am i supposed to do? I would need to take the entire SAT (for the fourth time) just to improve my writing which i've only taken once. Its not that i mind taking it over again, its how the colleges would see this that im worried about.

I don't think its that bad to take it more than 3 times, especially if you think you could get a lot higher on your fourth try. I think there's a thread about taking the SAT more than 3 times.

here's a quote from tanman from another thread:

There's no such "rule" about only taking three SAT tests. It a myth that has been dispelled by many college AdComs. Basically, take the SAT as many times as you feel comfortable with if you think you can significantly improve your score each time. Many people stop after three or four tests because by that time, they're getting consistant scores that are unlikely to change. Even if you take it more than that, colleges only consider your highest SAT score (highest composite or highest in each section, depending on the school). No college is known to average SAT scores. Most likely, the AdComs receive a "sanatized" version of your academic record, only showing your highest SAT and 3 highest SAT II scores - they really dont have time to consider how many times you took the test.
