Taking the test once more?

So my dream school is Cornell and was thinking of taking the test once more in order to improve my chances. My test record so far has been:

1st time: 530m/670cr/540w = 1740 Total

2nd time: 600m/720cr/670w= 1990 Total

First time I didn't study at all. I reviewed a bit afterwards for CR and Writing, but focused mainly on math. I'm not sure how I got a 670 in writing. I thought I had done a lot worse. But still, I think it could still be improved to a 700, but Cornell doesn't look at the the writing scores.

I'm already registered for the November test, but I am not sure if I want to go take it. I'm not sure if I would improve that much, but would like to improve math as much as I can. I might get a 650 in math if I really study for it.

What do you guys think? Is it worth taking it once more?

If you can improve your math score significantly it is definitely worth it. I recommend finding xiggi’s method and silverturtle’s guide on this site. Follow their advice, work hard and you should be able to improve your math score.

Thank you! I’m a bit worried about lowering my score though. How detrimental could this be?

If you study hard and properly you will probably increase your score. It is worth the risk. I’m not sure how Cornell looks at multiple SAT scores, but in general its not too much of a detriment to take the test 3 times.
