I currently take french independent study at my high school. I have taken all the courses offered by the university with the IS program in french so I am considering moving on to another one to continue to French III. However I also am considering taking Chinese - I went there for a couple and had a fun time. However I am not sure if I should tackle taking 2 languages. They are different so I figure I won’t get too confused…but I was wondering how schools would react if halfway through the semester I dropped one. I am applying to Engineering schools and I already have the 2 credits most look for - adcoms at schools I visited seemed to imply that they won’t reject you based on foreign language performance. Should I try taking both and taking a chance, or just continue French? Another possibility is taking Chinese IS without having it appear on my transcript unless I take the exam. Perhaps i’ll ask my couns. about that. Any opinions? I know schools like McGill, WPI, and Rose Hulman won’t care as much but I am worried about how schools like Tufts (prob. my #1 US choice) and Tulane would react.
