Taking two languages at the same time

Would it be inadvisable for a freshman to take two foreign language classes in the first semester? I've taken about 6 years of Spanish and will be taking SPAN203, and 0 years of Arabic so I will start at the beginning there. Our university does have a language requirement that is satisfied by a 203 level class.

Thanks for any help

If you’re strong at languages, you should be fine. I’ve taken 400-level German and 100-level French, and I didn’t have trouble with either language. It would probably be more difficult if you were just starting both.

I wouldn’t see it as too much of an issue since Spanish and Arabic are so different.

If it was too romance languages, you could easily mix them up (although they have similar rules, so it’s easy in that regard)

I intend to take two languages as well, however, first semester German 212 isn’t offered, so I will only be taking Russian first semester.

Just out of curiosity, why those two languages?

My friend took Spanish first semester, then Spanish and Portugese second semester. She strongly preferred the latter once she began it, so she accidentally started saying their words in her Spanish exams, but I believe she still pulled off an A in both. As long as you have the time to dedicate to both, you should be fine.
