how hard is it to take two languages at georgetown??? I want to begin my study of French, and am already highly fluent in Spanish. I read on the GU website that it is a possiblity, just very restrictive. Is there any personal information about how to handle the situation of taking two languages if you really are serious about studying both?? Im in the sfs, if that makes any difference, and i want to major in international politics (probably)

Ooh, good question mmc--I'm interested in hearing an answer to this too. I'm...err..proficient, I suppose...in Spanish, and I would really like to start up with another language. I'm in MSB if I go to G'town (for now, at least).

I can't speak for the other schools (COL, MSB, NHS)...but in SFS, it is difficult, but not impossible, to take two languages at once. Summer school would definitely be something to consider, but it's expensive (for my family at least).

The thing is, if you are really committed to learning a language WELL, then obviously you'd expect to dedicate maybe three years to French. That eats into 6 semesters that you could be working on your major or core. Add to that that you'd still be taking Spanish, and you're going to find you are missing too much and will need to catch up above and beyond what you already have.

How good is your Spanish? If you're highly fluent, you could just take the prof. exam, pass it, and then sign up for french...and then take a spanish lit course, and that counts as a HUMW core requirement.

Yeah I would really like to take 2 languages as well. I already study Spanish, and I would like to learn Arabic, Chinese and French (I know, I can't study all of them, I wish) so I would really like to be able to do 2 at gtown, if I get in.
