My background from most students differs a little, to start off, I'm not a US citizen. I'm considered a dependent of my dad who had to fly in because of work, so I'm not entirely familiar of the ins and outs of education here.

I'll be starting in a CCC on the 20th of October (since I flew in too late to start on the first half of the fall semester), and I mostly want to ask regarding taking up courses with the goal of working towards a CS/CSE degree at a UC school. How rigorous are CS majors in CCCs?

If the additional information helps, I'm starting out in Irvine Valley College. Any other tips for a smoother transition into a UC school would be very helpful. Input from CS majors are especially welcome.

To transfer in 2 years you will need to complete 60 units, all prereq done ( goto Welcome to ASSIST to see what they are), and its strongly recommended to finish IGETC ( which is general eduction classes its different for each ccc) by the semester before you transfer.

I go to a CCC. Depending on which one you go to, it should be fairly kick back... you should not have to worry. Most programs arent to difficult..

As far as transfering to a UC, thats a different story... It can be very competitive of course. If I were you I would definitely read all the requirements (there are quite a few)
here are some more helpful sites just in case:

I am going to Fresno city college...(it isnt that great at all)
i am majoring in psych --but at uci i am majoring in social ecology though..
I have a tag with uci, ucd, and ucsb and am planning to transfer fall 09
