Hey guys, I was wondering how hard are upper divisions for freshmen. I am interested in Slavic 147A, but the fact that it is an upper division class scares me. There are no prerequisites, and I have ready good things about the professor. So, is it worth my time? Or will it just lower my gpa?

Certainly worth your time if you have the interest and skills for it. Usually upper division classes give out better grades anyway.

^ I agree.

Especially the upper-div psych courses. As a freshman, I got an “A+” in two of them but for some reason an “A-” in Psych 1…

If you’re worried you can always drop or change to PNP.

Thanks guys!

Upper division classes aren’t necessarily harder than lower-division ones. They just tend to be more specialized and expect more maturity from the students.

Okay, this is off topic, sorry in advance. How do the “Supervised Independent Study and Research” classes work? Do I get assigned some research or do I have to first find research and then sign up for that class. (Hopefully its the first one as I’m trying to find some research, but no one wants freshmen so far) Specifically, how does BioE 99 work?

I got a better grade in my upper div and i took one as a freshman. it was a southeast asian class and i did better than the lower div.
