Just got call home from a current Dartmouth senior welcoming me and asking if I had any questions and encouraging me to come to Dimensions. We kicked it and chatted for a while. THat's what I like, personal attention. Don't get me wrong or nothing....I get enough attention from people.. but it's nice knowing that I am not just a number to these folks. From this phone call, Dartmouth moves from a school I wasn't even considering to now being competitive with Duke and Penn and right now, it beats out Penn.
Just thought I would share how cute this was of them.

i got the call too and i absolutely agree! the student i spoke to told me Dartmouth even offered to pay my way to Dimensions :) unfortunately i can't go, which is really depressing :(

You mean Dartmouth offered to pay your way, not the student... right?
Yes, I love being courted by this college. I feel special :D

yeah...I got one of those happy calls after I received my likely letter...it feels so good to be loved and wanted!!! ^_^

"Dartmouth even offered to pay..."

yup, Dartmouth :)

Oh. Man I swear it said something different before.
Anyhoo, yeah I can't go to Dimensions either... But I also called the office and asked them if I could go another time. After much convincing and twisting around of dates, I finally got them to agree :D

machiavelli, when are you going? Is D paying? (Sorry if i sound cheap, but i can't exactly afford instant plane tickets lol)

Dartmouth has a lot of personal touches which makes it seem like a more intimate school than many others its size. Over the summer after D had accepted, a current student called me as a parent to see if I had any questions. We wound up speaking for some time and I got a lot of very good info from him on an assortment of topics.

yeah i like this aspect about dart too...an alumni from my area invited me and the four other people that were accepted from around where i live to his house tomorrow night to talk about dartmouth...i thought that was pretty neat, although i know its just good marketing :)

deadhead06,

I suspect that you and I will meet tomorrow...? inferring from the date, location, and number of people?

dyx, I'm going the 13th and 14th because my school has holidays then for Easter. I'm still not sure if it's finalized yet, since by the time I got out of school and called, the office was almost closing, and the person I talked to wanted to leave. I'll try to tell you more as I find out more myself :) But I'm pretty hopeful that they'll pay. Otherwise, I suppose I'll scrounge up the money myself and go.

Someone showed up on my doorstep today with a free Dartmouth T-shirt!!!

machiavelli, I have a similar problem in that I can't attend Dimensions being that Princeton's program is on the same dates and parents are making me go to Princeton's (grr.)

Therefore, I'm also trying to go on the 12th or 13th. I could get transportation up to Boston, so really I'd just need the bus fees from Boston to Hanover (which is like $50?). What did you say to ask if they could pay for you to go up to Hanover? I don't want to sound awkward lol. Btw, I do qualify for financial aid.

Oh, well, they already offered to pay for my trip in the letter that they sent me, so I didn't have to ask awkwardly lol. The only thing I asked was if I could possibly get alternative dates instead.

And sorry for your terrible dilemma with Princeton :D
