Talk to Coach while at NASS?

My D will be attending NASS this summer. She's a very good soccer player - probably not D1 but certainly D2 level. I know Navy has a top flight woman's team but am wondering if she should try to talk with the coach while she's there? Is there even time to do that? Perhaps over lunch one day? Obviously she'd have to set it up before hand.

Thanks

There will be a period for athletes including and specifically for soccer players to meet with Coach Gabarra. My daughter did it last year. No pre-planning is needed but an e-mail could not hurt.

Have your daughter email Coach Gabarra (you can get her email off the NavySports.com site) to see if there’s a time when they can meet–most likely right before or right after NASS as there is not really unallocated time during the week.

And even if they can’t meet then, your daughter will have introduced herself. Is she playing any of the big Spring/summer club showcase events? If so, she can include that information in her email, and it’s conceivable that Navy coaches will stop by and see her play.

But, you’re right, Navy Women’s Soccer is a great program–hovering around top 25 and certainly top 50 in D1 in recent years. Was Patriot League Champion 2 of last 3 years and consequently made the NCAA tournament–advancing to the second round in 2006 (having beaten the likes of Penn State, LSU, and William and Mary during the season before losing to UNC in the tourney.) So, definitely a serious program for serious players.

Good luck to your daughter! Have her reach out. Will look forward to hearing how it goes.

OS - As I said the e-mail is a good idea but also as I said there is time set aside as part of NASS for the kids to meet with the coaches of sports that they are interested in. The e-mail will bring your daughters name to the forefront for that meeting.
