I am so upset right now. I want to go to Wharton sooo bad and i scored horrible on the SAT 2’s… I score a 650 Math 2c, 610 ic, 620 writing. Someone tell me I stil have a shot. I have a 1410 regular, national merit commendation, national hispanic scholar, national honor society, foreign language honor society, math honor society, fed challenge, 3 years varsity wrestling, 3 years acadmeic challenge, key club, history and governement, physics club (1 year i took physics), math club… my courses include maximum amount of honors with APs as follows… US history, calc AB, BC, Economics, english, spanish, statistics… i haven’t taken bs classes (like ceramics)… i am 4 out of 240, hispanic male (colombian/ecuadorian), first generation, neither parents went to college. I volunteer , aside from NHS projects, with helping little kids practice wrestling… I also wrestle 4 nights a week off season… please someone tell me I shouldn’t give up… I am applying Early Decision, and i am so upset right now (i just looked up my scored a minute ago)

Dude, you have a shot (albeit not a great one), just take the damn SAT IIs again and study.

Also, if you dont get in its not the end of the world. There are other tons of other great colleges out there. Youll probably have a good time were ever you go.

thanks for the opinoin... I am sooo upset... i don't know what happened, i just froze on the test. I am taking the SATs again in november, but I won't be able to take the SAT II's until December (too late, i will already be rejected or deferred)... I forgot to mention I am receiving an alumni recommendation. can anyone else comment?

oh youre fine, youre a URM. youll probably get in just cuz of that

bartoastt, are you a current penn student? is being a URM that big of a heads up?

its a big heads up anywhere, adcoms love URMs

What does URM stand for?

UnderRepresented Minority

Being a URM is a help, but no one "gets in just b/c of that"...gotta have the academics to back it up. Your ec/s and academic record look good...I would just study like crazy for that SAT I and tear it up...relax, that's the key to those standardized tests anyway...

OMG seriously, I can't believe that you're worried about getting in. You're taking all intense classes and seem to be doing well, AND you have many, many awards, and you are a minority. Don't even stress, just take them again if you're so worried about it, I'm sure you'll do better the next time.

woww, totally did not realize that this was from 2004....scratch that advice.

Study for your SAT IIs and retake them in the fall. You have to study intensively if you want a good score..

^^
To everyone, this dude already got into Penn so stop posting. The thread was from 2004.

oh im happy he got in x]
bah i wanna be hispanic
theyalways get in good school =</p>

bartoastt and nikkigirl12, you are ignorant

If URMs are that easy to get in universities, Wharton is full of URMs.

I just hate people when the first thing they ask is "are you a URM." URM does not help that much. University of California - Berkeley's president defended UC - Berkeley's action; that is, from now on, his school will disregard ethnic background and only accept people base on their merits and academic background. I believe his action is correct. Take a look at 2005 Fall enrollment data.

Undergraduates by Ethnicity (total exceeds 100%):
African American: 3.5%
Native American: 0.5%
Asian/Pacific Islander: 41.4%
Chicano/Latino: 10.6%
White: 31%
Other: 1.6%
Not Stated: 8.1%
International: 3.3%
Undergraduates Living on Campus: 28%

Did you discover something (just for some background information, UC - Berkeley's Asian enrollment has recently exceeded ... I believe it was 50%...)?

Yes this is a 2004 thread but I want to show my opinion so much.
