I am about to be a senior in high school, and have begun digging deeper into possible colleges. I have a strong interest in Wharton and will most likely apply early decision to Wharton. Since early decision would be binding, I was hoping that I could talk to a current student and get a first hand account of what life at Penn is like. I was hoping that I might find a current student of Wharton on here who may give me some words of wisdom. Is anyone up to talk to me?
@jzhang6 Let me give you a brief account if how i have experienced life at Penn so far. Penn is a very competitive and high energy environment. You will meet people who are very smart, impressive, energetic, you will be challenged academically like you never have before. Also you will be challenged and stimulated outside the classroom. At Penn students are always heavily involved in a variety of extracurricular activities and take it quite seriously and strive to get leadership positions and make a difference in the organizations they are involved. Students at Penn are notorious for being able to balance a heavy and challenging academic workload and also heavy extracurricular involvement. On top of these, Penn’s reputation as the social ivy is totally justified. Penn has a very vibrant social life and there are many parties and social events/gatherings going on all the time. What I really love about Penn is that there is this bustling energy on campus and it is full of smart, motivated and energetic people who are also sociable and know how to have a good time. The good thing is that there is such a variety in terms of clubs, frats, groups that you will almost definitely find a community that fits your interests and lifestyle. Also Penn is probably one of the most diverse ivies, which makes for a unique college experience. As for academics, Penn is unique because it offers a balance of liberal arts and practical pre-professional education, which is unique among the ivies. Students at wharton are not only able to get the best undergraduate business education in the country and arguably the world, but also supplement their business education with liberal arts classes from the college and engineering classes from seas and also many graduate courses from Penn’s various grad schools. Same goes for students in the other undergraduate schools at Penn. Also there are many opportunities for undergrads to do research and it is something that is very encouraged by the school. As for recruiting opportunities, Penn is second to no other school.
