Talked to a UCLA Rep

We went over my transcripts and talked about what I wanted to do if I transferred there from my CCC. She says that if I could pull up my GPA to 3.4, I have a great shot. I don't know if she was trying to humor me ( my GPA is at 3.08 at this time....) but she certainly put my mind at ease and sounded sincere.

My actual stats are listed among my previous posts.....

What do you think? UCLA is a great school and it's close to home. Should I bother gunning for it? ( I don't take rejection very well....but that's a chance that we all have to take sometimes...) I do have several backup schools in mind, however if I don't get accepted there for Fall '06 I'm definitely going to apply to UCLA for grad school.

Your thoughts?

Yeah i'd love to go to ucla as well.

Most people that i talked to say that u can get in w/ around a 3.4 if u are in TAP or scholars as some schools call it. But i already took most of GE and i would be able to take enough Honors classes to be in.

I've never heard of a CCC having a Honors program.....I go to Riverside Community College and I definitely know that I've never heard of us having one.
The rep was talking about my applying without any special programs and just on my major interest and unique hook ( being a former foster child and how my experience inspired me to want to improve and better assist the lives of people who are in the same place that I was.)

The rep also said that a 3.2 is what I need at least. I'm also thinking of taking my SAT's. ( which I didn't take in HS.)

um, i guess ur cc doesn't have the program which is good for u cause they can't hold it against u if u're not in it, unlike myself.

I am pretty sure u don't need SAT if u're applying from a CC/

What CC do you attend highschoolda?

Santa Monica City College.

1 school in UC transfer mostly b/c of the amount of people who go there.

aviva_dawn that's great...what's your major?

Sociology major

3.4 sounds about right for sociology. Can vary though, depending on the number of pre-req courses completed and stuff.

there can be two honors program for CCC

Phi Theta Kappa: international Honors society, requires a 3.4 GPA (i think)
each college's own Honors program: contents and requirement varies

PTK requirments are decided upon by the school. My CC has something called the HITE program, which basically is the same as an honors progra. We agree to go some extra work for classes (not honors classes, these are regular classes) and then we get honor credit for that class. We have to do 6 projects in order to complete the program. Typically the projects just consist of writting a good size paper, it is time consuming but well worth it.
