Talking about Parents' divorce?

I'm wondering if bringing up my parents' divorce would be okay for Notre Dame. I want to write about how it really helped me search for meaning and is one of the main reasons I want to come to ND (religious/great university). I'm also going to use it to explain my large drop in grades

in my opinion, they probably get a thousand of those essays and it wouldn’t stand out. Write about YOU - think of a moment in time that illustrates some aspect of you that would make you ND material. I wouldn’t pick a topic that would provide some sort of excuse for something in your record. Celebrate and highlight YOU.

I don’t like to tell people what to write about - that should be your own story and it just needs to be something that means the most to you…can most of the time others can’t really see this…but I would mention it somewhere for your drop in grades…

I think that sort of essay is okay provided that you do not spend too much time focusing on the event itself. You need to talk about yourself, your values, and how that event is actively shaping you today. Given the subject matter it may be difficult, but try to write in a positive and optimistic tone.
