Talking about video game development in my common app essay.

I just finished writing my common app essay, and I think the writing was pretty good and captivating, and really show-cases who I am as a person. I’ve spent a lot of time making apps/games and stuff, and I couldn’t think of anything else to write other than some stories I had gained from that. While I am personally happy with it, my mom thinks that writing about app development would make me seem like a shut-in and would give colleges a negative vibe. Should I actually be concerned about this? Basically every college says to not write what you think the admission officers want to hear, but should I be cautious about using this topic? I have a few other topics I could write about but honestly I’m not very inspired by them and I don’t think they represent me as well as my current one does.

Thanks for any help in advance, sorry if my writing was confusing.

My top 3. universities are Cornell, USC, and Georgia Tech, if that helps.

I don’t see why one wouldn’t write what adcoms want to learn. After all, this is for admissions, not a free form hs writing assignment. Not just who you are, but how that works for them. So try to know what the targets want to see in candidates and how you can incorporate that.

Depends on how it’s written. Eg, is it too much detailing the process of designing or also include road bumps, your thinking, to show resilience and determination? You can easily throw in how you interact with others in how you structure it. Make it a nice tale.
