Talking confidently, clearly, and smoothly

During conversations, I insert lots of pauses while thinking about the right words to use and my sentences come out dull and split up into different chunks. How can I make talking come more naturally and smoothly?

do it really slowly

^what he said.

Are you referring to proper diction in your thread title? I don’t think confidence plays directly into “talking more naturally and smoothly”.

Either talk slower like porkperson suggested or plan your words before you speak? I don’t really see how you could fix the problem you described unless you have a speech impedement or if English is a second language for you.

Maybe practice tongue twisters to help your diction?I did that a lot back in my theatre days. Tongue twisters definitely helped with my speaking clarity.
