Talking to admissions officers

I'm applying early to a college, but the regional rep isn't visiting my area until after Nov. 1st. So, I thought it would be a good idea to email the admissions person for my state, just so he knows me on a personal level, at least a little bit, and I can actually talk to him personally, rather than just have him read my application. But then I thought that perhaps he would think I was just trying to ingratiate myself.

Do you think the former or the latter is true?

(BTW -- Sorry, I know this is written in a really weird tone)

Well, if you're meeting him at/ 2 weeks before the deadline, he will know you before he reads your app. It's not as if the Nov. 1 deadline hits at midnight and the admissions reps open your file immediately and decide.

Also, it depends on the school... and if your deadline is sometime like mid october (any schools do that?), ignore me.

I think you should email the person with a few heartfelt questions about something that won't make you look dumb. Then state something about your favorite aspect of the school and how you are happy that you have the option of applying early.
