TAMS Chances

The Texas Academy of Mathematics and Science (TAMS) is a unique residential program for high school-aged Texas students who are high achievers and interested in mathematics and science. While living in McConnell Hall, students in this two-year program complete a rigorous academic curriculum of college coursework at the University of North Texas (UNT). Instruction is by regular university faculty. There are no high school courses taught, but students enjoy many of the activities of high school and the company of age mates who are intellectual peers.
About 200 Texas residents are admitted to TAMS each year. Admission is competitive, and students are selected from schools large and small, public and private, and from every region of the state. Successful applicants must present SAT scores, grades, and teacher references suggesting a capacity to succeed in college-level work. Computer programs or formulas are not used in student selection. Every applicant will be evaluated holistically, and no specific SAT score or grade average will guarantee admission. Aside from academic credentials, students will be judged on apparent maturity, motivation, behavioral record, and career interest. The TAMS Selection Committee is comprised of experienced individuals including alumni parents and representatives from academia and from scientific, mathematical, and engineering professions.

I am a sophomore attending school in Frisco ISD and am planning on applying for the early decision and would love to get feedback! Thank you

SAT: 1910 (600 CR, 650 W, 660 M)

Hey, I’m applying early decision too, and I saw your stats. I think gradewise you are fine, but your sat is not very convincing. The average math last year was around 720 and that was very important when looking at SAT. I know people with 1800s on their that got in because they had high math scores. Looking at extracurriculars, they are fine but have you won any awards from the activities? You’re rank is about where I am (40/962) and grades are similar. If you want to check out my stats and extracurriculars, my stats are on my profile, and my sat from today is 2000 (math-750 cr-600 writing-650). If you want to discuss anything else about the admissions process, send me a direct message.

Your numbers are good enough, but you’ll need to write great essays & interview answers esp. describing your ECs to compete against the plethora of Frisco/Plano applicants.

Ok guys so I just got the interview!!!

Congratulations! Even though this is super late, I’m not surprised. I think after the interview is a math test for algebra 1 1 and 2 so you might want to study up on that! I’d appreciate it if you check my chances and tell me what mine are? :)>- Once again, congratulations

I think you are a good candidate. Higher SAT and some awards in math/science are missing yet still very good chances.

Thank you all! I got in!!!

Hey! I got in too, trying to make some connections before Summer-O. I think someone made an instagram for class of 2018, you should follow it!
