TAMS: What Are My Chances?

I'm a sophomore from Katy (Houston area), thinking about applying to the Texas Academy of Math and Science.

Here is my information:

7th grade- All Pre-AP, all A's
Math
English
Texas History
Science
Orchestra

8th grade - All Pre-AP, all A's
Algebra 1 (CBE)
Chinese 1&2 (CBE)
Engineering and Technology
Geometry
English
Science
US History
Orchestra

9th grade - All Pre-AP/AP, all A's (around 93-100)
Algebra 2
Biology
World Geo
English 1
Chinese 3 Pre-AP
AP Computer Science
Orchestra

10th grade - All Pre-AP/AP, no grades yet but hoping for all A's :')
Pre-Cal Pre-AP
Chemistry Pre-AP
AP Physics
AP World History
AP Chinese 4
English 2 Pre-AP
Orchestra

if I stayed at my high school I would probably take:
11th grade - All AP
AP Calculus BC
AP Biology
AP Chemistry
AP US History
AP English
Orchestra
some HCC dual credit course or study hall

12th grade
AP Statistics
Health/Speech/P.E./Politics (1 semester each, required, but could also take them in the summer)
AP Human Geography/AP Pysch (1 semester each)
Orchestra
2 HCC dual credit courses or 1 dual credit course and a study hall/early release

Tests
AP compsci - 3 (computer science is definitely not my strong point lol I probably won't want to put that in my transcript)
SAT (7th grade) - 1600 (for Duke TIP)
SAT (9th grade) - 2140 (last administered practice test I took, not official)

GPA/rank
4.64 (9th grade)
4.72 (what I'll have if I get all A's this year)
Our ranks don't come out until junior year, but I'll probably be near the top 1-2% which is like the top 5-10 people. I'm not completely sure how many people in my class since our school is new (opened 2013) and the size is increasing pretty much exponentially.

Extra Curricular
9th grade
Orchestra, top orchestra, participated in region and state UIL
Science Olympiad
Mu Alpha Theta (math club)
10th grade
all of the above along with:
FBLA
Key Club (founder)

Leadership positions
10th grade class officer (we don't have positions)
orchestra - historian 9th grade and 10th grade class rep
science olympiad - secretary
Key Club president and founder

TAMS student here. You’ll get in. They are much less selective for students outside of the Dallas area. TAMS will be a good choice for you because you can take higher level math and science courses like calc 3, differential equations and organic chemistry. What do you want to major in?

Hey! I’m a junior at TAMS right now and honestly if I got in with the qualifications I had, you’re definitely going to get in!

TAMS student here. You’re stats look good. Just make sure you do well in the interview and you’ll get in

I’d like to major in Biology or Biochem. Thank you for the reply. I’ve submitted my application for early admission, so fingers crossed! Do you know what around what time Interview Day invitations get mailed?

Former TAMS student. Left the academy. I would recommend you make sure if you go their you know what you are getting yourself into. Because if you don’t end up liking the academy or end up failing out their is a good chance it will screw you over. I left because of the social aspect. Their was nothing to do and I felt constantly overwhelmed with work. Well I think it would have not been so bad if it was more like college. I left and still made top 10% and was admitted into some excellent colleges like DUKE, Cal Berkley, USC, and UT Austin, UT Dallas. Just make sure you won’t get screwed if you leave. I made sure it wouldn’t screw me if I left. Covers all your corners.

(TAMS student here): If you’re early decision, you should know about interviews in the next few days or so. People in the Dallas area are starting to get their letters.

Lol stats don’t mean much…it’s about the interview and drive…#truth (tamsjunior)

Yep, I just got my letter a week or so ago  I kind of figured that much after looking at some of the student reviews for TAMS (yikes)/. I’ve done my fair share of contemplating. One of the main reasons I decided to apply was because I felt like if I stayed at my school I would have had more work than at TAMS since I would have taken at least 5/6 AP classes next year. There’s also the lack of options in course selection since my school is fairly new. What do you mean by cover your corners?
