TAMU Freshman Honors Application Open

Hi, I’ve been admitted to engineering and have already applied for housing. Can I still apply for Honors even though I’ve already been set for Mosher?

Just to clarify my question, can you apply to live in Honors housing without knowing whether you’re in Honors?

city and you: my S was accepted into engineering, selected Mosher for housing, and then after submitting his honors app changed his first choice housing to honors (the honors letter of completion instructed applicants that they must select honors housing as first choice); he kept Mosher as second choice, so if he doesn’t get into honors this will then become his first choice. From what i’ve read here, I think you can change your housing choices as frequently as you like, your place in line does not change. If I have any of this wrong, I’m sure someone will correct me. JR

Youdon’tsay: JR has it right. You want to get the housing contract done ASAP. Residence Life tells me that at the current rate, they’ll be closing in February.

Since we require that freshmen live in the Honors Housing Community, we don’t accept them into the program if they don’t have a spot on campus. It facilitates the process if they’ve already picked Honors as their first choice. As JR noted, you can switch your preferences without changing your priority date, and you can get a full refund of the housing deposit if you request it by May 1.

citytrap: we require freshmen in our program to stay in the Honors Housing Community, so you would need to change your preference to Honors if you want to be considered for our program. You can also apply to the University Honors Program after your freshman year if you don’t want to live in the Honors Housing Community.

I have not sent my ApplyTexas application yet and the due date for the Honors program is already too late for me to apply. Would there be any chance to gain consideration to join the program after freshman year?

GiveMeReason: Yes, you can apply to the University Honors Program up until you have completed 60 hours at Texas A&M (see [Applying for Honors](http://honors.tamu.edu/Honors/Applying.html#Continuing)).

Freshmen who are not in the University Honors Program are also encouraged to participate in a number of activities hosted by the Honors Student Council ([Honors Student Council](http://hscweb.tamu.edu)) that are open to the public.

Depending on your intended major, there might still be an opportunity for you to participate in Honors your first year through a college or departmental Honors program (http://honors.tamu.edu/Honors/Graduation%20College%20and%20Department%20Plans.html); you should contact the respective coordinators of these tracks for more information.
