TAMU Honors Money

@Beaudreau, thanks for the link! I completely agree that certain conservative activities reduce a student’s admission chances at some schools! I guess the flip side is that the students might not be happy anyway at such a place. Maybe it happens the other way around as well - where more “liberal” activities can hurt acceptance chances, but maybe that would only be at a religious university. I’ve never heard of it happening though.

A&M is pretty conservative, so it seems that Eagle Scout rank, Boys and Girls State, ROTC, etc. are given appropriate consideration.

My son wrote an essay that was probably well received at A&M, but he used the same essay for other applications. We mentioned to him that it might not be well received in other cases, but he stuck with it.

Just saw one for vet school - it is part of the criteria http://vetmed.tamu.edu/news/patsy-nichols-“heart-of-service”-endowed-scholarship-established-at-texas-am-college-of-veterinary-medicine-biomedical-sciences Wouldn’t be too surprised if there are a few more, just not advertised as such but part of the preference for candidates. There was also one about aero engineering, the deceased honoree was also an eagle scout so I would imagine that would be a plus too http://engineering.tamu.edu/news/2014/02/25/widow-of-lockheed-martin-executive-endows-scholarship-in-his-honor I don’t think all the criteria is revealed for every scholarship, just when they are initially announced. There were three new ones in the business school - one required membership in certain fraternity, another military ties & the third BHP. Many of the scholarships especially department based ones, reward specific criteria. I guess that is why the continuing student app is so long!
