Hi everyone,
I recently get accepted to University of Minnesota (UMN) and Texas A&M; right now, I am still waiting for University of Washington(UW) in Seattle. My intended major is computer engineering. I have lived in Seattle for almost two years and I love my experience here; therefore UW is my top favorite school on the list. However, life is not always as we want it to be;in case I get rejected by UW, which school of the other two should I go ? I have never been to Minnesota or Texas, so I am very appreciated if you guys could tell me your personal experience in those school. Any advice or suggestion will be very helpful for me at this time. Thank a lots !!!

oh wow - Minnesota or Texas… could not be more different.
Since this is the Texas A&M board and I’m an Aggie, I’m going to say Texas A&M all the way. I actually have a BS in Computer Science.
Where are you from?
It gets dang cold in Minnesota in the winter…

@klparker: hi bro, I am from Seattle (WA). I have no experience with UMN or TAMU, so I post the same question on both school’s board ^^. Plz help me bro!
This is my dilemma:
For tuition: UMN is cheaper than TAMU but the living cost is more expensive.
For weather: I prefer hotness to coldness; however, College Station is a small city compared to Twin City of UMN.
For academic: both schools have the same reputation.
I will very appreciate the Aggie students if they can give me some of their “distinctive” experience or advice which can help me come to a final decision. And, thank you so much for your valuable time !

I actually applied to UMN last year and got accepted to Biology. They have very similar rankings for overall school. Though I would say A&M would have the edge in the Computer engineering.
UMN’s tuition/room & board is a lot cheaper for you b/c you’re OOS for both schools (23k total vs 32k total). You’ll be saving around 9k a year, which is a lot.
Minnesota gets really cold during the winters, maybe even below 0 sometimes. Lots of snow. But you’ll probably get used to it after a couple of months. Twin Cities is pretty big, which I would prefer over small College Station.
A&M does have the Aggie network I guess. So overall, A&M has a slight edge for your major in Computer Engineering. UMN is quite cheaper than A&M at 9k/yr. Don’t know what your situation with money is…

If you have the money, I’d go to A&M. If you can’t afford it, go to UMN. I know you could end up anywhere in the country, but most grads end up staying in state. If you really like certain cities in Texas (Houston, Austin, Dallas) or Minnesota (The twin cities) then I’d choose based on that. You really can’t go wrong.

Thanks Xcellerator and Jrt336,
Actually my family can afford the tuition in both schools. May you explain to me a little more about the Aggie network? Will it have significant advantages on my future career? You know that because I am transferring from a small community college, so I do not know much about this.

A lot of former A&M students hire graduating A&M students. You could say they look after their own.
