TAMU vs Baylor

I was accepted to Texas A&M and Baylor for biomedical engineering. I understand that TAMU is ranked higher in engineering, however, Baylor is more well known for their medical majors. I visited both schools and I honestly liked A&M’s campus more for some reason. Baylor’s campus was beautifully, but they are religious and I am not. I got several scholarships and grants from Baylor, so the prices between the two are close together. I just wanted to know some insights on the two schools for my major specifically. I don’t plan on applying to medical school, but potentially grad school (not for sure tho). I’m not sure if that plays a big part, but it is something to consider. I also know that TAMU alumni is stronger than Baylor (aggies hire aggies). I’m not too sure how strong Baylor is in terms of biomedical engineering specifically and if I am able to get a job right after I graduate. Anything helps. Thanks!

Texas A&M is going to be stronger in engineering in every way than Baylor. If you aren’t overly religious then I can’t imagine the Baylor campus in Waco would be a great place for you. You’ll be required to to go to chapel and required to take a certain amount of religious classes and they aren’t a walk in the park.

This is all anecdotal but I have parent friends whose kids go to Baylor and a few of them are in engineering or CS. I’ve had way too much free time lately due to Covid and I’ve perused the kids Linked In accounts. I guess I’m comparing them to my own kids resume (also engineering) but of these four, none of them have had “Real” internship or co-op experiences and one of them is about to graduate. One of them has a LinkedIn account that is literally the saddest LI profile I have ever seen. Seems sad to me especially when you consider how much $$ their parents paid.

Go to TAMU, enjoy the extensive and well known strong engineering program and name.
