How competitive is UT Austin for Premed? I am kind of intimidated by the large class sizes. I also heard its harder to find research and volunteering opportunities because they are limited. I am also worried about the difficulty of maintaining a good GPA at UT vs at TAMU. Currently I’m choosing between UT and TAMU. Does anyone have info regarding premed at TAMU? I hear that its known in Texas but outside of Texas it isn’t as favored. Please help!!
Both are good and you’ll have the same chance of acceptance to a TX med school from either. (D’s med school class is comprised of many UT, TAMU, Rice, and a few Baylor students.) If you’re wanting to go OOS for med school (not sure why you would with the cost differential), I would select UT. Be mindful, though, most OOS AMCAS schools know TX kids rarely choose them because of the tremendous savings the TX schools offer; thus, it’s often harder for TX kids to get accepted.
