TAMU vs UT

I have been admitted to both TAMU and UT, but I can't decide between the two. I grew up an Aggie, and I love the school, but I went to the UT Honors Colloquium over the summer and really enjoyed it. The way I've broken it down, UT has better housing and a more diverse student body (and it's not quite so conservative), while A&M is safer and has great traditions. I plan to major in International Studies at either college, so I was wondering if any of you have any thoughts or input on anything I've just said. Also, if you could tell me anything about the International Studies programs at either school, that would be great (think quality of professors, class sizes, etc.). The cost would be about the same, so I really would like to focus on student experience and the strength of the programs.

From your post, I gather that you are liberal, which would lead you to UT. But, you also said that you “grew up an Aggie”. If you are a sports fan, while UT and TAMU are now in different conferences, that can be a big deal. As for the programs, I can’t really help you there, as I am not that familiar with either school.

You can’t go wrong at either place, and you concisely lay out the differences between the two. For international relations, I’d go for UT because it is a more diverse and rambunctious place.

I would pick TAMU over UT for STEM, but definitely UT for International relations.

In general I would say that UT probably has more of a reputation internationally but they are both fine schools and you should choose the one where you feel happiest and most comfortable. If you want information about a specific program at a specific school, I’d suggest posting on the UT and TAMU walls.
