My daughter was placed on the wait list for Tanglewood. She is a soprano – a dime a dozen. And, she was accepted to Brevard. Does anyone out there know if Tanglewood does call kids off their wait list? I am sure it depends where you are, and of course, we don’t know that. She is a sophomore. Does anyone know if the program at Brevard is good?
We have a similar dilema with our D between Interlochen and Brevard. She was accepted at both programs. I am intrigued though that at Brevard she will be taking classes twice a week with Joseph Evans himself. I have heard nothing but good things about him as a teacher and as an accomplished singer. I am also interested to know about Brevard from anybody who is more familiar with it. Feel free to send an inbox if needed. Please sopranomom 1997, keep me updated in your decision process. My daughter is also a sophomore.
Coloraturadad – I have also heard wonderfully supportive comments about Joseph Evans and others on staff at Brevard, and it was my daughter’s voice teacher that sent us in that direction in the first place. She believes that Brevard is a great place to learn in an environment that is nurturing. If you hear opinions from any family/student(s) who have attended, please share. Feel free to send an inbox as well.
If you have to give an answer to Brevard before you know your waitlist status, you may just need to send the minimum deposit in and be ready to let it go if she really wants Tanglewood and gets off the waitlist. It happens.
I work with a young singer, a hs senior, who is going to Brevard for second session. At the performing arts school where I volunteer, other singers have attended Brevard’s summer program and really enjoyed it. It is in a beautiful mountain area and you really are surrounded by the music. They have quite a fantastic lineup of performances and the students get to attend them all for free. People come from all over the region to attend the events.
My D attended Tanglewood last year and will be there again this year. They DO use the wait list and there is a chance that she will get in. One camper was called up the week before. Good luck! Brevard is an excellent program too.
