TAP alternate major question...

i know you're given an alternate major through TAP...but my question is, if you get rejected to your first choice major w/ TAP...will you be considered for your second major as a TAP applicant too?

I figured...maybe they see you as a TAP student for your first choice major, then when they review you as your alternate major you wont count as a TAP student anymore, and thus not priority for your alternate major. maybe they use TAP to consider you for an alternate major, but not consider you priority for your alternate major...i hope i explained this well!

If I get your question right…you’re still a TAP student with priority for your alternate major. For example, there was a poster on here with a 3.1 GPA who got rejected from Biz Econ but in as his/her alternate major of Geography which has a 3.56 average acceptance GPA. So TAP most likely had some influence on their alternate major choice.

I’m guessing you also mean as to the benefits that come with TAP (TAP scholarship, honors program etc?)

yup you understood my question right!

thanks thats good to know…bec.i stupidly chose an impacted major for my alternate as well =/

Haha, I’m in the opposite position.

I need an alternate major LESS impacted than anthropology. I’m toying with the idea of Women’s Studies. Laughable now, but I’ll make it work! :stuck_out_tongue:

Good luck with your alt. major!

oooh i was contemplating making my alternate major womens studies as well…but i dont think there’s much to do w/ a degree in that! sigh im so confused…

Erica,
You spend way too much time on these boards… lol :]

Adrian - I’m just killin’ time until I get to transfer. lol -___-

Erika (my bad, just notice i spelled it wrong the first time),
No worries! If I go to UCLA, you can party with me and the other cc UC Transfer students!

Erikuh- we’ve got a hot second. or a hot year. damn. V_V

What other majors can i choose for my alternate?
(Also Anthro, but im a boy, so womens studies…not exactly my thang)

hey I got into UCLA geography through TAP haha
First major was biz econ…no way I could get in with a 3.1 gpa

^ yeah, that’s the guy/girl! :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m actually visiting UCLA tomorrow (well today considering the time lol). Gonna surprise my friend for his birthday. I’m really tempted to buy a UCLA lanyard from the student store…

-theregoesevan (or any other TAP anthro majors)

These suggestions would only help if you really wanted to go into Anthro but got rejected for that.

A really good archaeology substitute is Geology or Geology/Paleobiology, since you will be learning alot about stratigraphy and all the good stuff that makes archaeology scientific. You can also put down Art History as an alternate, cause there is a bit of overlap with anthro and the pre-reqs aren’t so bad. Plus, art history has a higher acceptance rate than anthro amazingly enough and art history would be great for a future in archaeology.

Sociology is another good one, though it is impacted, but it would be a good substitute for cultural/socio anthro. You can totally get into an anthro graduate program with this degree if you intend to focus on cultural anthro.

If you want to focus on linguistic anthro, just choose anything titled linguistics as your second choice. But only choose the language&linguistic majors in the language you are currently taking.

If you are going for biological/physical anthro, look into doing Biology or Ecology, Behavior, and Evolution as your second choice. Either of these would really help get you into a bio anthro grad program.
