has anyone taken the honors program at a community college to help get into UCLA? how was it? was it worth it? and how difficult was it compared to regular classes?

Easy -- ususally they stress a oral component like a presentation or something, but the tests are ususally the same as regular classes and there might be a term paper 5-8 page paper that is extra... easy on the whole

i heard it's not that hard as you think haha probably an extra paper/essay dat's all

oh, good to know! thats a huge relief.

i'd like to know some more info about the stuff they make you do in the TAP

dont even do TAP.... many people get accepted without TAP..unless your major is impacted...

I started doing TAP but in the end decided not to and didn't complete it (still got into UCLA). These are the various things I did, or was in the process of doing when I stopped:

A two page movie review

Read a novel, answer about 20 questions from each chapter, and meet with the instructor for an interview about it

A 20 minute speech/power point presentation

A six page paper on the history of, famous composers, musical pieces, etc of the piano

That's all I can think of. But as you can see, it varies greatly from class to class.

tap was nice for me bc i hate being in CC classes w/ morons. group assignments suck monkey balls in regular classes. at least in honors classes its tolerable and chances are your partners speak english

If I remember correctly the benefit of applying with TAP to UCLA was that you could apply for two majors. So if you weren't accepted for one major, you could be accepted for another. I could be mistaken though. Ask a counselor about it.

Is this true? Can anyone else clarify? I go to Santa Monica College if that makes any difference.

that is true for C L&S, doesnt apply to Comm major though. u still need all major reqs done for both majors

It is true TAP does not apply to communication majors. HOWEVER TAP will still give you the opportunity to apply to a back up major. So you can apply communications and also apply to an less competitive major.

Yeah, it doesn't apply to communications majors, but the great perk about TAP is that you can apply with an alternate major in case you don't get into your first choice major.

I did the tap program at my cc, and I got into UCLA for the fall 2008 semester. I really enjoyed my honors classes because the students were much more mature, intelligent, and took the class more seriously. You will notice a huge difference between a regular class and an honors class, due these reasons. The assignments vary from professor to professor. For me, it usually involved doing a 10-12 page research paper at the end of the semester. The tests weren't that much harder compared to those of regular classes. There's nothing to be scared of as long as you're a student who takes his/her studies seriously and puts in the time and effort to complete a decent paper.

What is TAP. My college doesn’t have TAP program. Is it very important for applying to UCLA (i am thinking to apply for business econ.). I know this major is very comparative. What should I do?

maybe you should compare the date of this thread and today to evaluate competition.
