TAP Program

Has anyone heard anything from the TAP Program? I know they said that we will be informed of their decision during April, but I'm curious about the applicant pool.

What other pre-pharmacy programs have you guys applied to/got accepted to?

yes, i have a friend in that program...Its HIGHLY competitive and once you're in, the workload is very very strenous...my friend is constantly swamped with papers and midterms every time to visit her!

umm you just take the regular pre-dental classes in TAP...while garenteed a spot so if you think it's hard, your think pre-dental anywhere is hard

if youre talking about the trojan admission prepharmacy program i can tell you a few things since im in it now

elanorrigby is just trying to scare the crap out of you

the tap program just guarantees you acceptance into the pharmacy school after undergrad and is conditional upon your GPA (above a 3.2 overall and above 3.0 in science classes). you dont really have to do anything extra. the only time you actually do stuff for the program is when you meet with a TAP advisor (dona christianson) once a semester to make sure youre on the right track as far as prereqs and classes go

yeah, thats me, trying to scare the crap out of you...

As with any pre-anything programs, yes it's hard. Its not a piece of cake, that's all what im trying to say...and you did ask has anyone heard anything about it...well that was what i HEARD...

o crap...im really sorry. i thought that you were trying to be sarcastic. i didnt mean to attack you or anything and if i came off as a jerk i didnt mean it

but anyway, i guess it could be difficult in the sense that college could be difficult because the program doesn't really expect anything extra that you wouldn't get from pursuing an ordinary degree in biology anyway.

I haven't heard anything from USC or the TAP program. I was thinking that because I was applying for the TAP program, my USC decision will come out later. But it's the last week of March and I haven't heard anything from them!

usually if you are going to interview for something for USC they will send out your admission to the school early.
bmd,scholarship works like that

I graduated from UCLA last year (got B.S. in three years) and now I'm at UCSF Pharmacy School. A lot of my friends got in as well. I heard that it's not that difficult to get into TAP, and I suggest that you consider UCLA if you wish to enter research upon graduating from pharmacy school. UCLA has a lot of research opportunities for undergrads and its entrance rates into UCSF are really high. The UC's are more affordable, there's more room for growth/change of mind, and UCSF is a very highly ranked pharmacy school.

Why are UCLA's entrance rates to UCSF so high? Does it have to do with being in the same system? If I got a bachelor's from USC, would I have a decent chance of getting in UCSF? (Assuming I get a decent GPA, maybe 3.5?)

I believe that UCLA is stronger than USC in health related fields. Being at a UC for undergrad helps. However, if you take difficult classes and excel in them and conduct research as well, I think you'll do fine.

Here's a link from U.S. News where they say UCSF is the best in the nation for pharm.

<a href="http://www.usnews.com/usnews/edu/gr...f/pha_brief.php%5B/url%5D">http://www.usnews.com/usnews/edu/gr...f/pha_brief.php</a>

Based on NIH (National Institutes of Health) funding UCSF ranks 4th in amount of funding for 2004 and number one for 2005.

<a href="http://grants.nih.gov/grants/award/...04all1to500.htm%5B/url%5D">http://grants.nih.gov/grants/award/...04all1to500.htm</a></p>

I believe that UCLA has high entrance rates into UCSF because of the research projects going on on campus. Another factor is the strength of the curriculums and the wonderful preparation UCLA provides its students.
I got into USC pharmacy school as well but decided to attend UCSF. Whatever you do, don't enter TAP simply because of fear. I gaurantee that if you work hard, you will get into a far better pharmacy school.
The average GPA for UCSF admits is about 3.5.
Are you absolutely sure you want to become a pharmacist? If you plan on entering one of these programs where you're stuck, make sure you are absolutely positive. When I first entered UCLA I intended on becoming a doctor. However, as time progressed, I decided on pharmacy.

what degree did you get in LA

My major was biochem
I took some of the classes that were required for other majors as well...like harder math (class was filled with engineering majors)

Sry to bring up such an old thread, but Im currently looking at colleges and I was wondering how hard is it to get accepted into the TAP program? I read somewhere that there were only 14 students in it and that seems very selective.

Hey haro-chan, I'm currently in the TAP program. Its supposed to be very selective but personally, I thought it was fairly easy to get into (that's just my opinion though). And yea, there aren't that many people in the program that end up getting selected. Just make sure you have really good recs and essays.

Thanks for the advice!

What would you say it takes in terms of GPA and SAT scores?

I'm worried about not getting good recommendations and volunteer hours since I've moved to different places for every year of highschool, making it hard to develop relationships like that, but say I had a 3.85 GPA, 2050 SAT, and a good essay?

Also, do you know how much they take APs into consideration?
